Charlotte Elizabeth Webb, better known as Betty, was home schooled (Parents National Education Union), later attending a school in Germany in 1937. Betty has also attended Redbrook College of Domestic Science and Grosvenor Secretarial College in London.
Betty has had an interesting career as a member of the Ancillary Territorial Service at the Government Codes & Cypher School at Bletchley Park during the Second World War (1941-45) where she also visited and worked at The Pentagon Offices, Washington, DC. When returning to the country she continued working at the Territorial Army Units and West Midland Women’s Royal Army Corps Recruiting Office.
When Betty retired from the Army she has worked tirelessly for 16 years (1970-86) as an Administrative Secretary to the Birmingham Law Society on Temple Street, Birmingham. She has contributed immensely to our bicentenary book “Our Legal Community” celebrating two hundred years of Birmingham Law Society.
Betty’s charming and wonderful personality shines through when she speaks about her time at Bletchely Park and her role within it throughout the war. She is a wonderful media broadcaster, loves to travel and is an avid bird watcher!
