How to Become A Member

Types of Membership
A corporate subscription to the Society, whereby all partners in a practice pay a fee, gives all legal staff within the practice access to the Law Library and its associated facilities.
Where a corporate subscription has been taken by a practice, there is no additional charge for solicitors within that practice to become members.
Trainees, Legal Executives, and paralegal staff in practices paying a corporate subscription are permitted to use the Law Library.
NB - Where there are multiple offices within one practice, benefits may only be utilised by those offices taking the corporate subscription; benefits may not be shared between non-member offices.
If a practice is not a corporate subscriber, individuals may join by taking an individual (but non-library user) subscription at a reduced rate.
Barristers wishing to use the library facilities are able to take out a special "bar membership" at either advantageous corporate bar rates or a higher individual rate. There are no additional benefits associated with bar membership.
In-house lawyers are welcome to join at special rates

Benefits of Membership
All members of the Society receive a copy of the Bulletin magazine, published monthly, containing current news and views about the legal professional in the Greater West Midlands area.
All members have voting rights at both the Annual General Meeting and also the annual Legal Awards event.
The Society will communicate important information to all its members, both individuals within practices paying a corporate subscription and those with individual membership.
Both corporate subscribing practices and individual members are able to book on training courses at preferential members' rates.
Those firms taking a corporate subscription will be included in our on-line referral system

Details of Membership
In November each year the Council of Birmingham Law Society approves the level of subscription fees payable with effect from 1 January the following year.
Membership application forms have to be completed for consideration by the Council of the Society at its next appropriate meeting, and the relevant fee paid, before firms/individuals can avail themselves of the benefits of membership.
Non-payment of the appropriate invoice means that members will be excluded from benefits.
