Pro Bono Services

  1. Do you need free legal advice?
  2. Do you want to give free legal advice?

The Birmingham Law Society does not provide free legal advice, but the Pro Bono Committee can help! Our aims are to:

  • support;
  • co-ordinate;
  • promote;
  • signpost; and
  • raise the profile

of pro bono work amongst Birmingham Law Society members and the local community.

"Pro bono" is the term for free legal help for someone who cannot afford to pay for legal assistance and is not entitled to legal aid. Pro bono complements, but is not a substitute for, legal aid.

Organisations who provide pro bono often need more volunteers. Through pro bono work you can give something back to your community and develop your legal skills and knowledge.

If you need advice, or you would like to volunteer, please review our database.

The University of Law are going to be running a consumer protection advice clinic, in conjunction with Castle Vale Residents' Alliance. The service will provide free initial advice on consumer protection issues, including drafting letters on behalf of clients.  The service is not a representation service, but may be able to refer clients to other agencies who can assist with this.  It runs fortnightly on Wednesday afternoons.  For appointments, clients should call 0121 747 5932 or email This email address is being protected from spambots.
