Birmingham Law Society is celebrating its 200th anniversary by commissioning a major painting by Reuben Colley.
The society was formed in 1818, at a time when Birmingham did not have its own law courts.
Today, it is the largest local law society in England and Wales, with 3,500 members.
Reuben Colley (pictured) has been painting Birmingham for over 20 years and has established himself as one of the most significant interpreters of the city’s constantly changing urban landscape.
Reuben said: “I am very privileged to have been chosen by Birmingham Law Society to celebrate their 200th anniversary with this painting of Birmingham Law Courts.
“It is one area of the city centre which hasn’t been subjected to redevelopment, and so felt very familiar whilst painting it, like a true Birmingham figure-head, and with such impressive architecture one can’t help but to produce a beautiful painting.”
The commission will also be published as a signed limited edition and will be available to purchase in October.
Reuben Colley’s last high-profile commission was for the John Lewis Partnership, and his five paintings of Birmingham can be seen in the restaurant in the John Lewis store at Grand Central.
