Sponsors get behind legal awards
Monday, 16th March 2009
Birmingham Law Society has signed up six new sponsors for this year's Legal Awards.
The business community has rallied round and is throwing its weight behind the annual event, which will be held at the ICC on Thursday 26 March.
The new sponsors include The College of law, which is sponsoring the Trainee Solicitor of the Year category; DX Group, which is backing Law Firm of the Year (15 partners or fewer); Jaguar UK, sponsor of Solicitor of the Year; Landmark Information Group, Commercial Solicitor of the Year; and Severn Trent, Legal Executive of the Year.
Bank of Cyprus has also signed up as sponsor of the guest speaker, Charles Kennedy MP.
They will be joined by returning sponsors St Philip's Chambers (Law Firm of the Year, 16 partners or more); 3Sixty Systems (Barrister of the Year); Giles Insurance Brokers (Assistant Solicitor of the Year); Chiltern Railways (Law Firm Manager of the Year); and Baker Tilly, which is sponsoring the drinks reception.
Paul Farrow, chief executive of Birmingham Law Society, said: ''At a time when businesses are feeling the pinch and budgets are tight, we are delighted that we have secured six new sponsors for the Legal Awards.
''The fact that businesses want to be associated with the awards is testament to the event and to the legal sector in Birmingham. Without the sponsors the event would not be possible.''
The Birmingham Law Society Legal Awards is now in its eighth year. The event attracts more than 400 people from across the region to celebrate the achievements of firms and individuals in the legal sector.
This year around 130 nominations were received by Birmingham Law Society, which have been whittled down to 44 finalists, who will be battling it out for one of the nine awards.
A distinguished panel of judges, chaired by former president of the Law Society Kevin Martin, will decide the winners, who will be announced at the awards ceremony.
Tickets for the Birmingham Law Society Legal Awards are on sale, priced £80 + VAT. Please contact Rebecca Lynch at BLS on 0121 633 6909 for further information.
