Birmingham Law Society
Bernard Shepherd Pen Portrait (for Birmingham Post)

Name:       Bernard Shepherd

Age:          Three score and ten

Job title:   President of Birmingham Law Society;
                   consultant at HBJ Gateley Wareing LLP

Best thing about Birmingham/the West Midlands: The future, as the city and region continue to regenerate.

Worst thing about Birmingham/the West Midlands: The way it seems to be by passed by government.

First thing you would do if you were Mike Whitby? Continue the good work of promoting Birmingham and ensure that city centre and suburban regeneration remain at the top of my agenda.

Who are your heroes? John Wayne – he was always the good guy!

What was your childhood ambition? To be a farmer – my mother came from farming stock and much of my childhood in North Wales was spent on family farms. My father had other ideas and wanted me to become a lawyer.

What are your future ambitions?I have achieved most of what I have wanted but I would like to see Birmingham Law Society become a strong lobbying force supported by most, if not all, the legal profession in Birmingham and the Midlands.

Favourite phrase?  Based on personal experience: pick yourself up, dust
yourself down and start all over again.
I’ve no time for wallowing.
