The cost of qualifying to become a solicitor is beginning to prove a major barrier to entry to the profession especially for those from under privileged backgrounds. Law graduates looking to become a solicitor need to complete a Legal Practice Course (LPC) before undertaking a two-year training contract with a law firm. Non-law graduates need to sandwich a conversion course, the Common Professional Examination (CPE), between graduation and the LPC.

CHAMBERS COUP FOR BIRMINGHAM LAW SOCIETY

One hundred and sixty two barristers from Birmingham’s St Philips Chambers have joined Birmingham Law Society (BLS). This is the first time an entire set has joined the organisation in its 191-year history.
