Denise is a 36-year-old family law solicitor who qualified ten years ago and who joined Benussi & Co in 2007 after spending almost a decade with a magic circle firm in London, while 52-year-old Sue, one of the region’s legal heavyweights, is senior office partner at Eversheds, with more than 30 years’ experience under her belt. Friday, 16th October 2009Birmingham Law Society has expressed concern at the volume of suspects being cautioned by West Midlands Police. New figures obtained under the Freedom of Information Act show that of the 5,092 suspects arrested for drug offences in the West Midlands between September 2008 and August 2009, more than 36 per cent of those who were dealt with got off with a caution. The figures for violent crime show that of the 30,434 suspects arrested and dealt with, more than 20 per cent were cautioned, with a similar figure of 24 per cent for the 5,399 arrested and dealt with for criminal damage.

Wednesday, 28th October 2009BIRMINGHAM LAW SOCIETY CHIEF EXECUTIVE STEPS DOWN Paul Farrow is stepping down from his role as chief executive of Birmingham Law Society. Mr Farrow has been in the three-day-a-week post since December 2006, when he became the 191-year-old Society's first ever chief executive. His appointment followed the shake-up of the legal services profession resulting from the Clementi review, in which regional law societies were expected to take on greater representation of its members. He was also briefed to help modernise the Society and overhaul its finances.
